KOMIŽA is situated in deep lying open port on the south-west part of the island Vis. It’s picturesque Mediterranean town with rich history. It has narrow streets filed with old stone houses. Along the Komiža’s bay there are lot of beautiful beaches. Komiza is well know as fishing town. Through the history residents of Komiza lived from fish refinement such as sardine, tuna, saucy and etc. In USA there are many people from Komiza who are well known fishermen. They transfered fishing tradition from Komiza to USA. Island Vis was an a trade route in the antic times. There are lot of antic wrecks and sunken boats. Those are very popular diving routes, also underwater has rich flora and fauna. Great walls are covered with yellow and red gorgonia, fish, snails and crabs. All those in wide range of colors. Vis and neighboring archipelago are protected form the ministry of culture, department for the culture heritage.
